Leather in perfumery is a unique and evocative note, balancing sensuality, ruggedness, and refinement. Its origins trace back centuries, when glove makers in 16th-century France began scenting leather goods with oils and botanicals to mask the strong tanning process. Over time, this led to the creation of "Cuir de Russie" (Russian Leather), an iconic scent inspired by the smoky, birch-tar-treated leather used by Russian cavalry.
